Project Time Management

Effective project management requires adequate time for planning and enough time for implementing the plans. This knowledge area deals how to decompose the project activities and how the project is planned, scheduled, tracked, monitored deviations with schedule and completed in a timely manner. Duration of the project is estimated in this knowledge area.

Project Time Management comprises six processes:
• Definition (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Sequencing (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Resource Estimating (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Duration Estimating (Planning Process Group)

Project Scope includes managing all of the work required and agreed with the stakeholders during the design phase and only the work required and agreed, to complete the project successfully.
Clear and well defined scope is very important for the completion of any minor or major project on time.

Project Integration Management

Includes day to day processes required to ensure that the various elements of the project are properly coordinated. Using Project Integration Management, Project manager can put all the pieces of a complex project together. This is how project is completed within agreed time, cost and quality. This knowledge area helps in meeting the requirements and managing the expectations of the stakeholders.  

Project Integration Management comprises seven processes:

  • Develop Project Charter (Initiating Process Group)
  • Develop Preliminary Project Scope Statement (Initiating Process Group)
  • Develop Project Management Plan (Planning Process Group)

What is Knowledge Area?

Knowledge areas are areas of specialization. One dimension describes nine “knowledge areas” while the other dimension describes fourty four project management processes divided into five process groups.

Each of the nine knowledge areas contains some or all of the project management processes. For example, Project Human Resource Management knowledge area contains following four processes:

·         Human Resources Planning (Planning Process Group)
·         Acquire Project Team (Executing Process Group)
·         Develop Project Team (Executing Process Group)
·         Manage Project Team (Monitoring and Control Process Group).

    How to calculate PM experiences?

    To be eligible for the PMP Exam, you must meet below tabulated educational and professional experience requirements.

    Education Background PM Training PM Experience
    High school Diploma or Global Equivalent 35 Hrs of PM formal training 7500 Hrs of PM experience. 5 years of experience within an 8-year period. Experience in the 5 process groups.
    Baccalaureate or Global Equivalent 35 Hrs of PM formal training. 4500 Hrs of PM experience. 3 years of experience within an 8-year period. Experience in the 5 process groups.

    What is the PMP exam pattern?

    In Computer based testing, there will be 200 multiple choice questions, out of which only 175 questions are scored. 25 questions will be randomly placed throughout the examinations for statistical analysis and those 25 questions are unknown.Passing score is 131  out of 200 Questions (Including unmarked questions). Total duration of the examination is 4 Hrs.Total number of Questions from each Domain/Topic is as per the table below.Refer PMP Hand book page no 8

    PMP Exam Retake

    If you fail PMP exam, you can Retake the exam for maximum two times, during one year eligibility.

    If you fail the exam three times (1 Exam + 2 Retakes) during one year eligibility, you must wait for one year to reapply for exam.

    Exam Tips 6 - Question Marking

    1. Don’t take more then a minute for a question, if you are not sure mark and move on.
    2. Answer questions you are sure on first pass. Answer without looking at the choices first.
    3. Mark the unsure questions to review. Answer questions, think you know in second pass and guess answers you are not sure in third pass.
