Launching new Discussion Forum ! ! !

We have introduced this project management discussion forum to :

Hygiene Theory

Hygiene Theory was developed by Fredrick Herzberg. It’s also known as the Motivation-Hygiene Theory. Hygiene factors and Motivators contribute to motivation.Hygiene factors prevent dissatisfaction and deal with work environment issues.

Frederick Herzberg postulates that there are two factors that contribute to motivation: hygiene factors
and motivators.

Hygiene factors deal with work environment issues. Hygiene factors prevents dissatisfaction.
Examples of hygiene factors are pay, benefits, the conditions of the work environment, and relationships with peers and managers.

Change in PMP Expiration Date

PMP Certificants need to earn 60 PDU’s to maintain the PMP credential and validity of PMP Certification.

Currently, without taking in to account of the year of certification, the required Credential has to earned in next three years for maintaining the credential.

Effective from late August 2008 (Exact date to be announced by PMI soon), PMI has decided to change the PMP Expiration Date.
PMP credential holders need to earn the required 60 PDUs in four years from the anniversary date of the bestowal of their credential.

For example, If you have attained the PMP Certification on 16-May-2008, the Expiration date will be 16-May-2012.

Delphi Technique

One of the Risk Identification technique, used to gather information.

In Delphi Techique, the participants dont usually know each other, nor they have to be present at the same location.

A Moderator or project Manager will usually communicate with the participants to identify the Risk and consolidate all the risks identified by them.

This is one of the best technique of Risk identification, as the participants (not necessarily be only from project team) would not be influenced by other participants, as they usually do not know each other.

Decision Tree Analysis

Its a type of analytical diagram, which shows the interrelated decisions and the expected results of choosing one altenative over the other.This is an analytical modeling technique, which is a tool and technique of the Quantative Risk Analysis Process.

Expected Monetary Value (EMV), a statistical technique which calculates the average anticipated impact of a decision, is used in conjunction with decision tree analysis to quantify a risk and take decision based on oppurtunities or threats resulted on the analysis.

Decision Models

It is one of the selection method defined in the project selection methods which is one of the tools and technique of the Develop Project Charter Process. Decision Models are used to analyse different criteria to help and make decision during project selection.

Decision models include benefit measurement methods and mathematical methods.  These selection methods are known as decision models and calculation methods. Decision models examine different criteria used in making decisions regarding project selection, while calculation menthods provide a way to calculate the value of the project,which is then used in project selection decision making.

Project Time Management

Effective project management requires adequate time for planning and enough time for implementing the plans. This knowledge area deals how to decompose the project activities and how the project is planned, scheduled, tracked, monitored deviations with schedule and completed in a timely manner. Duration of the project is estimated in this knowledge area.

Project Time Management comprises six processes:
• Definition (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Sequencing (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Resource Estimating (Planning Process Group)
• Activity Duration Estimating (Planning Process Group)

Clear and well defined scope is very important for the completion of any minor or major project on time.

What is Knowledge Area?

Knowledge areas are areas of specialization. One dimension describes nine “knowledge areas” while the other dimension describes fourty four project management processes divided into five process groups.

Each of the nine knowledge areas contains some or all of the project management processes. For example, Project Human Resource Management knowledge area contains following four processes:

·         Human Resources Planning (Planning Process Group)
·         Acquire Project Team (Executing Process Group)
·         Develop Project Team (Executing Process Group)
·         Manage Project Team (Monitoring and Control Process Group).

    How to handle a situational Question in the PMP Exam and what approach should be observed? 

    • While answering a situational question in PMP exam, you need to answer from a PMI perspective - not from your perspective, which acquired through your own experience. Remember that PMI expects the situational question to be answered on an IDEAL environment for project managers that might be different from your own experience.
    • Answer the questions based on thge PMBOK concepts first and then consider your own experience. If they conflict,PMBOK wins!
